Lake Cable is happy to support and help bring the Illini Solar Car to life.
More than 60 students from the University of Illinois have come together to create a highly efficient, state-of-the-art solar car. The Illini Students are currently working to complete their solar car for the 2020 and 2021 competitions.
The team has been hard at work designing, building, seeking finance, and testing their vehicle to compete in the 2020 American Solar Challenge, where they are confident it will perform well. It’s a 1,500-2,000 mile course that goes across multiple cities throughout the country.
It will race again at the 2021 World Solar Challenge. This challenge takes place in one of the toughest landscapes in Australia. It’s a 3,000 km race from Darwin to Adelaide. The team will compete with students from more than 30 different countries. Participating teams must complete their journey between 4-7 days. It will be a true voyage for the students, they must travel as far as their vehicle will take them until 5:00PM and set up camp wherever they are in the desert. During their trip there are seven mandatory check points, where they are allowed to perform basic maintenance of tire pressure and cleaning their vehicle, find weather updates and their position in the field.
As a sponsor of the Illini Solar Car, we are truly excited for the students and wish them luck on their journey. If you’d like to learn more about the Illini Solar Car visit www.illinisolarcar.com
